Kim Hyun Joong was revealed to have quietly enlisted in the military on May 12, but not before relaying a handwritten letter to his fans!  

He uploaded pictures of his letter onto his official fan cafe on the same day.  A portion of his message reads: "Failing to grasp an opportunity to comfortably greet you, I've ended up saying my farewells.  Honestly, during all this time, I had felt greatly apologetic. As a public figure, I was unable to speak my mind, so had to hold my breath. Everyday was hard for me as I reproached myself for not being more thoughtful and mature.

"During this confusing time, many people helped me out mentally.  I wondered with what words I could apologize to the people who were hurt by me and angry at me; it feels like I am leaving with a big amount of debt."

He then also relayed his thoughts on the future.  He wrote, "Any man born on this land goes to the military, but as it's now my turn, a part of my heart is uneasy.  I believe that the next two years will be an opportunity for me to be reborn."

He also uploaded pictures of himself getting his hair cut for the service.
