On February 25, the police informed the public that a homeless 55-year-old man Park was prevented from committing suicide after two college girls, 21-year-old Kim Jung Eun and 22-year-old Lee Soo Yeon, talked to him and called the authorities.
The incident occurred on February 24 around 10:40 PM at the Hangang Bridge in Seoul (pictured above). Kim and Lee state that they are Keimyung University students and were visiting Seoul for sightseeing. While enjoying the view on the bridge, they spotted a bag and a pair of shoes. While looking for the owner, they heard a weeping sound and found Park sitting on the rail, intoxicated and about to jump off.
Kim and Lee reported the incident, grabbed onto Park, and asked him to have a drink with them, to reconsider his choice. When the authorities arrived, they were able to rescue Park. According to reports, Kim and Lee approached Park afterwards and said, "Are you okay now? It's a relief that you are alive," bringing tears to his eyes.
After investigating, the police found that Park split with his family after his business failed 20 years ago and eventually became homeless. Park showed the police his savings account and said, "Every month my niece sends me 100-200,000 won (approx. $90-180 USD). Please help me meet my niece." Unfortunately, even though Park had his niece's contact information, the police were unable to contact her.
