According to the police, a father of surviving Sewol Ferry victim 'A' made a complaint saying, "Punish those who write comments that belittle [Sewol Ferry] student victims online." 'A's father continued, "Kids who hear about these comments receive a huge shock. I couldn't just watch doing nothing and so I looked for the police."
This request is following the fishcake picture incident, when a 20-year-old Ilbe member Kim posed as a Danwon High School student to mock the Sewol Ferry victims. Kim uploaded a picture of himself, shown above, eating a fishcake. Along with the picture he wrote the caption, "I ate my friends," implying that he was eating the fish that fed off the Danwon students who died in the Sewol Ferry incident.
In the picture, Kim also makes the signature sign for Ilbe with his hand. Ilbe is an internet community that uses its freedom of speech to say controversial things and start controversial trends, such as mocking the suicide of former President Roh Moo Hyun as well as the deaths of the Sewol Ferry victims.
It has been further revealed that Kim has left many other insulting comments regarding the Sewol Ferry victims via Facebook. According to 'A,' Kim also uploaded a picture of a corpse on a stretcher and wrote, "It's a large-sized fishcake that I ordered." On another picture of female Danwon students covered with a blanket, he wrote, "This is a delivery of large-sized fishcake for three people." On a picture of a fishcake soup, Kim wrote, "Danwon High School group photo."
Danwon High School graduate 20-year-old Lee stated, "Upon hearing the news that Kim was consistently writing insulting comments regarding the Sewol Ferry student victims, we graduates have collected evidence of Kim's comments. He needs to face severe punishment for his insulting comments."
The police told the press, "Because Facebook operates on American servers, it won't be easy to find particular online users; we will focus on investigating as much as we can to find the commenters using the accusers' gathered evidence."
