TRIANGLE EPISODE 20
Recap:
Dong Soo watches while Young Dal and Yang Ha exchange threats. Busan boss Myung Jae is told that he has to meet the criteria to gain access to the VIP room, but is given special dispensation by Young Dal as part of the young man's plan. Chairman Yoon fires Jung Hee so that Yang Ha will not be distracted, but the youth quits Daejung as well. The game in the VIP room begins with Boss Min and Man Bong v. Myung Jae. Busan boy even borrows money from Chairman Go, but bets it all on a single hand and loses. The game ends with Myung Jae impoverished and having to withdraw back to Busan.
Jung Hee goes to Director Hyun and informs him she will sue to get her job back as she was only fired because of Yang Ha's one-sided love. Young Dal starts to beat down Yang Ha over Jung Hee's termination, but is stopped by Jung Hee herself. Yang Ha drinks to forget his troubles and is told by Shin Hye to be brave. Chairman Go pledges to help Director Hyun in his bid to be Chairman Yoon's successor. Young Dal and Jung Hee reconcile, acing Yang Ha out of the triangle, but Dong Soo drops the bombshell on our young tough: Yang Ha is actually the youngest brother.
"Who the hell are you to destroy Jung Hee's dream?"
My take:
I was pretty impressed with Jung Hee this episode. Usually, she is swept up in events, unable to do much other than just go along for the ride. Here, when having to deal with Myung Jae, she briefly flashes back to her past ordeal, but she remembers herself and bravely keeps her professional demeanor. Quite remarkable. Not only that but she also stands up for herself when she's fired, heading straight to Director Hyun's office (not that she'd gain any traction there, but she couldn't know that) and threatening to sue for wrongful termination. I do have a solution for her money woes: as a director, Young Dal could hire her as a personal assistant, at least until he gains enough power to reinstate her as a dealer.
Yang Ha shows a surprising amount of backbone here, again defying Daejung Group's interests for his own. He not only stands up to his adoptive father but he also displays an uncharacteristic amount of self-reflection when he admits to Shin Hye that no one is on his side because he hasn't tried to be likable.
Young Dal and Jung Hee share a tender kiss.
I was hoping for a more explosive confrontation with Myung Jae. For all the build-up, he hasn't shown himself to be anything other than a bully, unable to intimidate or impress. Certainly people had some trepidation while dealing with him, but I still hadn't seen any reason for him to deserve his reputation. His appearance was unpleasant, as well, reminding me of nothing so much as a rat. Glad he's gone.
I'm glad Jung Hee and Young Dal are back together. Dong Soo's words had rattled around in Young Dal's skull more than once over the past couple episodes: "Don't give up your dream." And he hasn't. Even if your busy, you need someone to love. And, as I've pointed out above, I think she's equal to the task. She's toughened up, gained a sense of self. I think whatever happens, that couple will do just fine.
Go: "If you are to inherit Daejung Group, how can I not help you?"
I like how each of these episodes ends on a cliffhanger. Helps keep the interest up. They've positioned the two idols in the show really well, and their rivalry is priceless. I wonder now if it will turn into sibling rivalry. I somehow can't imagine either of them being sorry for the things they've done, and Dong Soo is still tortured by the memory of what Seon Joo told him about the adoption. However, it really does look like they're setting up Yang Ha to be his own person, more able to join in the fight to take down Daejung. We've only got three weeks left to see how this all plays out. *sniff*
