GABDONGI EPISODE 15
Recap:
Mu Yeom and Tae Oh play a deadly game of "chicken" in order to convince Tae Oh to help catch Gab Dong. Except it's not chicken, it's "who will swerve before they reach the edge of a cliff?" And Tae Oh loses. Tae Oh helps as a consultant at the site of the 8th murder and both Tae Oh and Mu Yeom imagine themselves as Gab Dong. They try to figure out how to implicate Section Chief Cha, and then Tae Oh has the bright idea of faking the evidence. Even Maria expresses her desire to see Gab Dong put away and wants to falsify the evidence, but Mu Yeom remains firm. Maria and Mu Yeom eat dinner together. Cha, of course, is onto our group's plan and sits Tae Oh down to talk. Tae Oh refuses to confirm which side he's on. Section Chief Cha delights in revealing that the DNA has been destroyed; "Don't you think Gab Dong would have made sure of that?" he asks.
My take:
Playing chicken is about the silliest way I can think of to ensure someone's cooperation, but then again, Tae Oh has a death wish, I think. Like I said before, I'd be more likely to bargain with a lighter sentence or something in exchange for my aid. Maybe a guarantee of a job once I was dumped back out in public. And this may be a minor quibble: *they did not play chicken.* They just drive their cars at a cliff, a drop-off where the road somehow just mysteriously vanishes. It's like the road engineers bothered to pave a road out to a cliff and simply stopped. I hope it's marked "dead end" somewhere otherwise it would be a nasty surprise for a first-time visitor.
Maria and Mu Yeom
Chul Geon is now the indispensable helper. He even flies to Japan to meet with the original scientist who worked on the DNA information back then. He's retired, but that doesn't stop Chul Geon from asking. Section Chief Cha was in a unique position to taint or destroy the evidence since he was working there. Chul Geon has become an almost likable character and that's something I hadn't suspected. He used to be the man you wanted to hate and now he's the man you need around. Even though he's fired, he still devotes his time to chasing down the culprit.
Tae Oh is almost taking a back seat to Section Chief Cha. Jung In Gi makes a creepy Gab Dong, and even more so since he's the section chief. Cha gives Tae Oh a run for his money as the calm, collected, large-and-in-charge psycho killer. He seems to almost be openly proclaiming that he is Gab Dong, which is a dangerous gamble. They seem pretty set on making him the bad guy, but we still have 5 episodes left until the end.
Section Chief Cha's creepy serial killer smirk. As good as Tae Oh's?
Maria and Mu Yeom make a cute couple. It's funny to see the almost schoolboy awkwardness that stops them from spending every moment together, which translates into reticence on both their parts. At least the writers want to make something of it and that helps move this along. I guess the question is: which Maria is he with? Club Chick Maria, Dr. Maria, or Victim Maria?
We're only a few episodes from the end. Now that we know who the killer is, are they going to be able to keep our attention that long? I think as long as they keep the roller coaster ride we're on, throwing in a monkey wrench now and then should help. I think the game of "chicken," though extreme, helped in that regard.
