THREE DAYS EPISODE 2
***WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!***
Shots have been fired at the President's villa. An assassination attempt has been made, men are out with bloodhounds searching for the man responsible, the man known as...Tae Kyung?
After the EMP does its work, people discover every agent at the fishing area dead and the President missing. They discover the pit where the sniper likely shot from and the blame is placed tentatively on North Korea. Tae Kyung says that General Yang Dae Ho told him about the assassination before he died, but Lee Cha Young investigates and finds no evidence to support Tae Kyung's story; in fact, it looks like Tae Kyung might actually be an accomplice at the very least. When Tae Kyung finds out that the Chief of Security is actually the mole, he escapes and tries to find Bo Won to get some help.
It was nice to see Bo Won alive. I kinda wondered whether she was going to be a major character or a casualty and I thought to myself, "She's too well-developed to simply kill out of hand." She has her own suspicions as to what's going on and has been pulled into this conspiracy quite against her will. Her sense of right and wrong keeps her trying to find out who, why, and how.
I like the way Tae Kyung is not the super-hero like we've seen in 'Iris' and 'Athena.' He's all too human; he doesn't wade through hordes of agents with his "mad skillz" and dodge bullets -- he runs and avoids getting shot. Without a gun, he knows he's outclassed. He also still mourns his father and wants to find out who killed him and why.
The logical leaps they make are very well-done. A witnesses' "circle on the truck" that killed his father is the Telecom logo; Tae Kyung figures out how the assassins must have done it as well as the motives for their actions; Bo Won knows there are things that don't add up and wants to find out why. What I find amusing is that the Security Service doesn't seem to know what's up and simply shuffles from one location to the next -- they don't need an EMP to keep themselves completely in the dark. I know they are led and misled by a traitor, but one would hope that officials would be a bit more efficient.
Otherwise, this show keeps getting better and better, keeping the tension high. It also seems to generate more questions, which is part of why I keep watching. Why do the assassins in the telecom truck speak English to whomever they're reporting? Maybe it's like a code, so they can't be as readily understood? It seems as if Cha Young is more inclined to believe Tae Kyung, maybe starting to buy his story. Now that he's escaped, is that likely to still hold true? Is the president dead or dying? It looks like he's escaped the villa, but to what end? How did he know about March 5th and who was that other mysterious man he was talking to. What does all this have to do with Confidential 98, the file that the Minister of Finance died to protect?
What do you guys think? I look forward to reading your comments!
