Episode five was a cute little episode, just kind of a day in the life for most of our characters with no big mysteries or reveals (except for the tearjerker involving Trash and his patient- goodness gracious was that sad!). This episode also had very little focus on Na Jung, and finally let us see behind Yoon Jin's hair curtain. Let's recap five of the lovely smiles we got to see in today's episode.

5. Yoon Jin smiled for Seo Taiji
Oh Yoon Jin (Tiny-G's Dohee). She barely eats, she barely speaks, she barely looks other humans in the eye... the only thing we really know about her is that she loves Seo Taiji. In this episode, we finally get to see her let loose, fangirl style, and enjoy herself when she goes to see Seo Taiji at 'Inkigayo'. As she's getting ready to leave, she wanders down a hall and finds that she's passing all the artists' dressing rooms. She continues to the end of the hall and peeks into Seo Taiji's slightly open door. A PD tries to shoo her away, but Seo Taiji himself invites her in and even offers her a snack.
In one of the cutest sequences this show has given us so far, Yoon Jin carefully holds the corn chips aloft as she races home. She stops at the store on the way, and rather than let go of the bugles to get her wallet, she has the sales lady dig through her pockets for her- ha! She lays them all out in a nice, neat line when she gets home and just grins at them. How adorable.
4. Na Jung smiles for Trash
Na Jung (Go Ara) doesn't get much screen time in this episode, but she's still around. She throws a whining fit when Trash (Jung Woo) says he's stuck with clinicals and can't make it to the soccer match between the pre-med students and the computer engineering kids, but she still shows up to support her friends and her department.
In the end, Trash's professor decides to give the med students the afternoon off to go play in the soccer game, so Trash makes a surprise appearance just as the game's about to start. Na Jung nearly throws yet another hissy fit when the "infamous med student trio"- a group of three hot girls who all the boys like to gawk at- ran over to him in their cheerleading outfits and tried to get his attention. He gives them the coldest of cold shoulders (one asks "Do you know my name?" and he answers, "I don't care"- ouch!) before taking off his sweater and jogging off to find Na Jung in the crowd. He throws the sweater (which, knowing Trash, has probably been worn three days in a row since the last time it was washed) over her head and hooks his watch over her wrist before disappearing back into the game. Once Na Jung gets over the shock and excitement of Trash choosing her to hold his stuff, she pulls the shirt off of her head to reveal an ear-to-ear grin than even her latest round of stomach problems can't darken.
3. Chilbongie smiles for Na Jung
I know Bingeure (B1A4's Baro) is the official smiler in this household, but Chilbongie (Yoo Yun Suk) sure gives him a run for his money- what a cutie! He's so amused by Na Jung and her dramatics. In this episode, it's pointed out for the first time that Chilbongie is actually just as big in baseball as Sang Min (the object of Na Jung's fangirlly affection) is in basketball, and it turns out that Chilbongie is actually good friends with some of the guys on the Yonsei team.
He calls up one of the members and gets him to put Sang Min on the phone, which is far more than our Na Jung can handle. Shouting from afar at a basketball game is one thing, but having a real, actual phone conversation? Tongue-tyingly terrifying, apparently. He chases her all around the dining room and into the living room where she ducks under a table and emphatically waves him away- Chilbongie grins bemusedly at her the entire time.
2. Bingeure smiles for everybody
[Big spoiler warning for 'Reply 1997' in this section!]
I've been a huge B1A4 fan pretty much since day one, so I was already aware of just how adorable Baro is, but he really outdoes himself as Bingeure. He's all smiles at the breakfast table as he tries all kinds of new food for the first time. I love that a few episodes ago, everyone was fawning all over how cool and experienced the Seoul boys were just by virtue of being Seoulites, but now the tables have turned and it's the city boys learning from the country kids.
However, as a few of you sharp-eyed readers have noticed, Bingeure does seem to save some of his best smiles for Trash... could this be a new twist to our ever-more-complicated love story? Reader yuki-shiro speculated in the comments on last episode's article that Bingeure might even be the person who drives off with Joon Hee (INFINITE's Hoya) in the end of 'Reply 1997'... you might be on to something there, yuki-shiro. After all, the writers did bring After School's Jooyeon back as the younger, student version of her character from '1997' as one of Trash's classmates, so it's not like they're avoiding crossing old lines. I'm not gutsy enough to call it just yet, but it sure is an interesting theory!
1. Samcheonpo smiles for Yoo Jin
Oh Samcheonpo- does anything ever go right for this kid? After repeatedly accusing Yoon Jin's family's crabs of making everyone at the homestay sick, it turns out he was wrong. Yoon Jin loses it and starts bawling in front of everyone- poor thing.
Like you or I or anyone else with a heart, Haitai (Son Ho Joon) can't stand by and let this happen, so he does the logical thing and physically throws Samcheonpo in a room with Yoon Jin until he apologizes properly. It takes two tries, but he finally manages to get the words out and Yoon Jin coldly offers her forgiveness. Feeling bold, he grins widely and compliments Yoon Jin on the project she's working on- a little box to put Seo Taiji's corn chips in- and then pulls the '1994' equivalent of mom washing Shi Won (A Pink's Eunji)'s Tony shirt in '1997'- he eats three of the chips. Whoops! Yoon Jin flies into a rage and very nearly stabs him with her scissors- Samcheonpo will probably never want to be in the same room with her again!
I noticed in the last few comment sections that people were confused about the character's names. Don't worry, you're not alone- with most of our characters going by nicknames and their real names a big part of the mystery of the show, it gets confusing! So, to wrap up this review, I want to go over what names we know.
- Jung Woo's character is called Sseureki, which means Trash or Garbage. In these reviews, I usually call him Trash.
- Yoo Yun Suk's character is called Chilbongie. It refers to how he pitched "seven shutouts". I've called him by a couple of different variations of his name because I've seen it written differently in different places, but from now on I'm going to call him Chilbongie. He's also the only character who is officially confirmed to be in the running for Na Jung's potential husband, as Bingeure called him "Joon" a few episodes ago, and we know that Joon is a syllable of Na Jung's husband's name.
- Kim Sung Kyun's character seems to cause the most confusion, probably because he's gone by so many different names. Even I've been calling him by the wrong name all this time- back in episode one, his mother called him "Guk Young", which I assumed was his real name. However, as reader piggy68gal pointed out in the comments of my article on episode four, his mother called him this because she thinks he looks like Leslie Cheung, whose Korean name is Guk Young. I'm sorry for any confusion I may have caused, and from now on I'll call him by his in-show nickname, Samcheonpo.
- Son Ho Joon's character is called Haitai, after his favorite sports team, the Haitai tigers. You may have also seen this written as Hae Tae, since in the beginning it was unclear whether this was a real name or a nickname.
- Baro's character is called Bingeure, which means "smiley" or "smiley face", since he's always smiling. The only thing we know about his real name is that it's similar to Chilbongie's real name, and that he and Chilbongie have the same surname because their mothers married men who had the same surname.
Another thing I wanted to clear up is that you don't have to upvote or spam to get me to read your comments- I actually do check the comment section a few times after each article goes up. I don't always write back, but I do see your comments. If you ever want to get a hold of me directly, you can reach me via twitter @allergictostuff. Sound like a plan? Good.
But, back to the show- what did you guys think of our little capsule episode. Did I leave out any of your favorite smiles? Be sure to check out episode five of 'Reply 1994' on Drama Fever and let us know what you think in the comments!
