Actor Jang Hyuk recently revealed the inspiration behind his stage name.
On this week's episode of SBS's 'Healing Camp', Jang Hyuk confessed that he borrowed his manager's name for his own.
Since the segment talked about his 17-year friendship with his manager, a letter addressed to Jang Hyuk from his manager was read out loud on the show. The letter was signed "Jang Hyuk hyung" at the bottom, which led the MCs of the show to deduce that the manager's name was also Jang Hyuk.
Jang Hyuk revealed, "My real name is Jung Yong Joon. Jang Hyuk was taken from my manager's actual name."
He continued, "I was cast in a drama at the age of 20 and thought I was all that. I practiced signing 'Jung Yong Joon' everyday. However, one day, I heard people call out to my manager saying, 'Jang Hyuk'. I thought it sounded pretty good, so I decided to use Jang Hyuk as my stage name. That's why my signature from my early debut days looks awkward."
He then went on to talk more about his manager and his agency. "I've been with the same agency since my debut 17 years ago. I'm so thankful that even when everyone told me I wasn't going to make it, they believed in me and cheered me on."
In related news, Jang Hyuk is currently starring in the new SBS drama, 'Deep-Rooted Tree'.
