Looks like MC Mong is back to square one with his mandatory military service evasion trial, as he headed back to court on the 21st for the third time. MC Mong (birth name: Shin Dong Hyun) went back to court for his third appeals trial after being under suspicion of extracting teeth as a way of evading Korea's mandatory military service. The only extracted tooth in question is tooth number 35, and the dentist (Dr. Lee) who reportedly removed it stood as a witness. After attempting to treat the tooth, Dr. Lee extracted tooth number 35 in December of 2006. "We calculated how many and which teeth needed to be missing in order for him to be considered exempt from military duties, and he was eligible even without removing number 35." When asked their reasons to precalculate in the first place, he replied, "We talked about removing the tooth; it would have caused him pain in the long run." During the initial interrogation, Dr. Lee brought forth his attorney for the case, and it was revealed that the attorney would also be representing MC Mong himself. In regards to this situation, Dr. Lee remarked he had "no idea" and that he "hasn't paid the legal fees to the attorney yet, as the attorney is an acquaintance" of his. Back in April, the court's verdict found MC Mong not-guilty of violating Korea's military service law. However, the court found him guilty on obstruction of justice charges. Mong was sentenced to a suspended six-month prison term, a year of probation, and 120 hours of community service. The court stated, "Due to his difficult financial situation and fear of dental treatment, his dentists decided it would be best to extract the tooth." MC Mong's representatives argued that he was unfairly assessed on his obstruction of justice charges therefore requested an appeal, and the prosecution accused him of intentionally trying to evade mandatory military service and also requested an appeal.
