On July 8th's broadcast of the MBC special, 'I Am A Rock Legend', singer Im Jae Bum stated "I wanted to hold onto my pride as a rocker until the end. That's why I thought that if I played at any kind of event, then I was breaking my pride." Im Jae Bum was the original vocalist for legendary rock group, Shinawi, and in 1991 he made his solo debut with the ballad song, "After This Night Passes". Though he received much popularity after his solo debut, he became distressed because he couldn't keep his pride as a rocker. It led him to quit his broadcast activities. But he had a family that was dependent on him. Im Jae Bum said, "I didn't even think about my family and only kept my pride for 10 years. The only income we had were from royalties. When it was low, we only got 7,700 won a month." He couldn't hide his emotions as he continued, "Even in the winter, during the day, I told my family to just layer all their clothes. My daughter said she was cold. I just couldn't stand it anymore. My child said she was cold, but I had no money." Im Jae Bum went on, "I am not a malicious person, but I wanted to live like a malicious person. My comeback program was 'Soo Yo Yeh Sul Moo Dae' , but I honestly did not want to go on it. I just wanted to stay with my family. The tears that I cried during that time were tears of determination, contrition, yearning, and other complicated emotions." He added, "Lately, I've been going out to play with my daughter, Ji Soo. My wife who used to be so weak, with her face so pale, who couldn't even walk or speak properly due to her battle with thyroid cancer, will now answer my phone calls with a strong voice. The thought 'It's okay now' came to my head". This special episode spotlighted rock groups from 1986, who eventually came to be called 'The Three Kingdoms of Rock': Shinawi, Boo Hwal, and Baek Doo San. Interviews with Shin Dae Chul, Kim Tae Won, Im Jae Bum, Yoo Hyun Sang, Yoon Do Hyun, Kim Jong Suh, Park Wan Gyu, Shin Hae Chul, and more were also shown. Source + Image: TV Report via Nate
