Something fishy is going on for new variety program, SBS Running Man recently. According to a certain group of netizens, the show had manipulated and rigged its timeline which meant it was "scripted," and should not happen in a complete reality show. Déjà vu, anyone? The whole controversy has reportedly stemmed from a less-than-4-seconds scene in the show's latest episode. In this specific scene, a cell phone with a newly-arrived text message shows clearly. On the upper left corner, the cellular device clearly indicates that the present time is around 10 PM. However, the time should be around 2AM according to the show's plot (subtitle). To explain the situation, Jo Hyo Jin PD explained, "It's kind of iffy to say that it's a simple editing mistake. It was our mistake, however, to not censor the time. Our filming staff cannot interrupt the group from reading the text to get this type of shot, so we film the phone and its message separately beforehand. We do acknowledge that this scene caused a lot of confusion. We promise to edit more carefully from now on." It is acceptable how such mistake was made, but it is also understandable how netizens have acted so furiously to the situation. With Koreans (and perhaps everyone else) being highly intolerable of dishonesty, rigging the plot for reality shows has become quite the hot topic in the television industry.
