Quite a bit of China is involved with the k-pop business nowadays, don't you guys think? Chinese media has been on fire for the last few days, reporting that Korea's own superstar, Rain, was chosen to be the PR ambassador of Shandong. Shandong is a coastal province of eastern People's Republic of China, known for its enrichment in honorable history as the hometown of Confucius. However, instead of rejoicing over the fact that the world's hottie is now in charge of advertising their very own city, Chinese netizens are furious and have voiced their dissatisfaction.
"Why do we have to let a Korean man be in charge of spreading the words of Shandong, a province where Confucius lived as his home?" "I am a fan of Rain myself, but I do not want him to be the PR ambassador of Shandong." "We have a handful amount of Chinese celebrities who are from Shandong, so why can't we use them instead of a foreigner?"Due to this hot controversy, Rain is currently remaining silent on this issue. Although the reason for such a dispute is quite understandable from certain aspects, I believe a well-known figure in both U.S. and Asia promoting such a honored city will be highly effective. Rain's promotion will most definitely capture the attentions of people not only in China, but the whole world as well. But of course, there's always a limit to how one can represent a foreign nation.
