Continuing our new segment featuring up and coming Korean/Korean-American artists, we were able to catch up with singer/songwriter/producer David Choi. If you've never heard of David Choi then here's a little bit about him. David Choi is a singer/songwriter/producer from the Los Angeles, California area. He comes from a musical family and has spent many years learning all that he can about music. After getting accepted into a very selective ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) workshop, it led him to sign with Warner Chappell Publishing as a staff songwriter/producer as of April, 2006. David was kind enough to take a few minutes and speak to allkpop. Our readers come from every background from around the world and mainly keep up with K-Pop. Now for readers who don't know you as well, what genre of music would you consider yourself in? I would say pop/folk. You've been performing on YouTube and Myspace for a for a while now, but do you consider yourself a performer or a songwriter? I consider myself more of a songwriter/producer, but I think for the viewers on YouTube, I'm more of an artist. Have we, the public, ever heard of any of your songs? On the internet, yes. I've had some songs as background music in some TV shows and such and a couple songs in Korean commercials. You're very well known for never smiling. Is there a story behind that? Well, I smiled in a recent video which you can see here: David Smiles. I started not smiling because people were asking me why I didn't smile in my videos. The reason why I didn't smile was because it felt odd smiling in front of no one but a laptop computer. There was no reason to... it's still a bit odd for me. Now that your Only You album has been released, what are you future plans for 2009? Hopefully in 2009, I'll have more experience in the world of performing. I have a concert coming up in Feb 21st for Kollaboration. I'm a bit nervous because the crowd is going to be huge, but it should be a good experience for me. I would also like to travel more in 2009! For the ones that don't know me or my music very well, they can subscribe to me for the latest videos and updates at: David Choi YouTube allkpop would like to thank David for taking the time to speak to us and also sending us some autographed copies of his new album Only You. And being the nice and giving people that we are, we will be holding a small contest to give those signed copies out to you, the fans.
