MONSTA X & Steve Aoki: How K-pop took over YouTube

Posted by sre8 pts Wednesday, September 11, 2019

K-pop is officially a global phenomenon and YouTube has been crucial in taking the genre worldwide.

In this episode of The Verge's 'The Future of Music' presented by Aloft Hotels, we speak to K-pop group MONSTA X, DJ/Producer Steve Aoki, and YouTube’s Head of culture and trends, Kevin Allocca, to find out how this global platform has helped spread this genre and create one of the strongest fan bases worldwide.

They’re the Olympian athletes of the pop world,” says Steve Aoki, who recently collaborated with Monsta X on the single “Play It Cool.” “They’re trained athletes at what they do. Whether it’s in media training, to their dancing, to their singing. Koreans have mastered that, so everyone else has to catch up, or at least take note and learn.
