"I don't want to play volleyball again if it means admitting to things I didn't do."
Former national volleyball player Lee Jae Young has hinted at retirement.
On July 15 KST, Lee Jae Young posted a message on her fan cafe suggesting her retirement.
She wrote, "Playing volleyball was incredibly fun and the happiest time of my life," and added, "But now, I am away from volleyball, which was once everything to me."
She further explained, "It's not that I didn't have offers from abroad, but after Greece, I haven't thought about going overseas. I haven't felt motivated."
Reflecting on her struggles over the past three years, she said, "I went through very difficult times due to unforeseen circumstances and have thought a lot about how to communicate my situation to my fans."
Lee Jae Young also addressed the ongoing controversy over school bullying, stating, "Many people have suggested that I come to terms with the controversy to make a comeback, but I don't want to return to volleyball by admitting to things I didn't do. While I apologize and reflect on my mistakes, I often wonder what the point is if false claims are not corrected."
She emphasized, "My stance that what's not true remains unchanged. Volleyball holds many precious memories, but there have also been painful times due to harsh criticism spurred by someone's words." This seemed to indirectly reference her conflicts with fellow player Kim Yeon Kyung.
In closing, Lee Jae Young expressed gratitude and regret, saying, "I hope you remember the good moments of Lee Jae Young as a volleyball player, and my impressive leaps. Please support the second chapter of my life. I will strive to live without shame."
Lee Jae Young mentioned her "second life" and concluded, "I'm sorry to deliver this disappointing news to the fans who have waited for me. Please remember the good times and my impressive performances as a volleyball player. I hope you'll support the next phase of my life."
Lee Jae Young and her twin sister, Lee Da Young, played for Heungkuk Life during the 2020-2021 season. However, they were released from the team amid controversies, including conflicts with teammate Kim Yeon Kyung and bullying allegations.
