Next month, a festival will be held in Suwon where Japanese adult video (AV) actresses will be attending, and it has been reported that ticket sales for the event have skyrocketed after protests from women's and civic groups.
On March 14, the event organizers stated, "After protests from women's and civic groups, 1,231 customers purchased tickets in just one day," adding, "Out of a total of over 2,800 tickets sold over the past month, nearly half of them were sold in just one day."
The organizers stated through a written statement, "The event, which was difficult to promote in South Korea, gained publicity through the protests," and they added, "We are actually very grateful. If there is any way we can help women's groups, we would like to do so."
The organizers also mentioned, "During the 2023 event, only adults were admitted through ID checks, and the event concluded successfully without any incidents," and they argued, "Has there been an increase in sexual crimes after the event? On the contrary, it was a more gentle and wonderful event than any other."
A representative of the organizers, in a conversation with media outlet Chosun.com, said, "The police confirmed that there were no legal issues with proceeding with the event. The event will proceed as planned," and added, "There has been no separate communication from the women's groups after the protest."
An adult content production company is organizing the adult expo '2024 KXF The Fashion,' which will be held at Suwon Messe in Sowon-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City for two days on April 20 and 21. This event follows last year's December event in Gwangmyeong, making it the second one.
Attendees who have been age-verified can pay an entrance fee to participate in the event, where they can receive autographs from Japanese AV actresses, take photos together, and watch lingerie fashion shows.
On March 12, the Suwon Women's Hotline, along with seven women's organizations forming the Suwon Women's Network and more than 30 civic groups gathered at Suwon Station Cultural Square for a press conference, stating, "We strongly condemn the adult expo '2024 KXF The Fashion', which commodifies women's bodies and sexual acts."
On the other hand, the organizers argued, "Rather, due to the stigma that 'adult content is illegal,' adult culture is further suppressed, leading to an unhealthy direction," adding, "According to a study published in the American Scientific journal 'The Scientist', as the use of adult content increases, sexual crimes decrease."
