Korean netizens are responding to a North Korean propaganda YouTube channel that tries to depict life in North Korea as pleasant.
In the past, North Korean propaganda was perceived as videos of an elderly news anchor wearing a Hanbok while blatantly praising the greatness of the North Korean regime. However, the time has changed and North Korea seems to have caught onto the trends of social media.
A YouTube channel known as 'Olivia Natasha - YuMi Space DPRK daily' has emerged, uploading vlog-style videos portraying daily life in North Korea as idyllic and pleasant.
In these videos, the YouTuber, who identifies as Yumi, is depicted relishing Korean BBQ and indulging in delicious cuisine, a stark departure from the image of poverty commonly associated with North Korea.
In particular, the YouTuber speaks in English, as if promoting North Korea to international viewers and sharing the different foods and desserts that are available.
After seeing the YouTube channel, Korean netizens commented, "The video resolution is so bad it's like a video filmed from 20 years ago," "They are trying too hard to make North Korea look so good but it's eerie," "They're trying so hard," "They think these videos are going to trick people," "That's the life of someone living in luxury in North Korea but it doesn't seem that good, which is sad," "The girl looks so tired in her recent videos," and "Seems so empty in some places."
Aside of the stupid trump supporters, these videos aren't fooling anyone.
