Chun Woo Won, the grandson of former President Chun Doo Hwan, apologized to his family, friends, and acquaintances and announced that he would stop exposing his family.
On March 24, around 12:00 PM, Chun Woo Won turned on an Instagram live broadcast and conveyed his message.
First, he said that he would donate his assets, saying, "My grandfather led many people to death, but my grandfather is also my family... These are the many thoughts that I have. The reason I donate is only because of God."
In response to the question, "What happened with exposing your family?" Chun Woo Won started by saying, "I want to apologize to my family, friends, acquaintances, and everyone who knows me. I can't even look at them because I'm sorry. I can't imagine how embarrassed they must be."
He continued, "Of course, I still hate them, but I still love them. My family all thought of me and showed me love during difficult times. I hope the people I love don't suffer and live happily."
Chun Woo Won explained he will no longer continue to expose his family secrets and shared, "This is something God has to do, who am I do to that (in God's place)? I did this (exposing) with the thought that I would repent and live on my own. I am a sinner. So I took down all the posts."
He continued to share, "No matter how much I struggle and try to expose them, the people I expose are the people who are part of the top 1% of the world. What would change even if I reported it? Nothing will change. So I will not expose them anymore. I am a sinner who has no rights to."
Chun Woo Won added, "I am a low life. Until the day I die, I will cherish the lives of others as much as I cherish my life."
Regarding future activity plans, he said, "I will not work. I have no intention of collecting wealth. I will donate all the money I have. I will continue to live and broadcast like this. I have given up all drugs and will never do it again."
Lastly, when asked, 'When are you going to Korea?', Chun Woo Won boldly confessed, "I reported myself openly, so if I am taken to Korea, I will go."
Many netizens who watched his video were baffled by Chun Woo Won and speculated that his family had paid him to stay silent. Netizens commented, "I guess he was given financial 'treatment' from his family," "I was supporting him but this is disappointing," "He made a clown out of everyone who supported him," and "So are you going to be an influencer now?"
Meanwhile, Chun Woo Won posted on his Instagram account on March 14 alleging that his family continued to live well with black money from somewhere. He also revealed information about slush funds stored in a safe at their home in Yeonhui-dong and several businesses run under borrowed names.
I don't think he was paid off- I think he was threatened. Think about what he said: What can I do when they are the top 1%? I have no doubt in my mind that he is suffering mentally, there is no way he is without at least some sort of damage to his frontal cortex from his drug use. This would also give explanation (along with his history of depression) as to why he would make some of the rash decisions that he did, including his exposure of his family on social media. In the end, I think they scared him in some form or another, and reminded him that just as their 'black money' gave him all the privilege that he talked about, that same money could bury him. Whether that be literally, legally or otherwise, his family could do some serious and permanent damage to his life if they really wanted to. On top of that, people can be bought- even if they find anything in the investigations, paying the right person could make it all go away. In the end, he showed his hand far too early and completely, so he has no support and is basically at their mercy.
