Hwang Ha Na was previously handed over to trial for her drug use while under her probation period. She appealed against the second ruling, but the Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal.
Her sentence of 1 year and 8 months in prison and a fine of 500,000 KRW (417 USD) were confirmed previously through the appeals sentence. However, Hwang Ha Na decided to appeal the second ruling with the Supreme Court. Since Hwang Ha Na had already been sentenced to a one-year prison with a two-year probation for the same crime back in 2019, she will now face a total of two years and 8 months in prison, including the past crimes she committed during her probation period.
In August 2020, Hwang Ha Na was found to be administering methamphetamine five times, injecting methamphetamine with her deceased husband, Mr. Oh, and her acquaintances Nam and Kim during her probation period. Then on November 29 of the same year, she was accused of stealing 5 million KRW (4,170 USD) worth of items from acquaintance Kim's residence.
Hwang Ha Na was arrested in January last year and was sentenced to two years in prison during the first trial. She decided to appeal the first sentence and received reduced sentencing of 1 Year and 8 months during the appeals trial. However, she was dissatisfied with the ruling and decided to appeal to the Supreme Court. After the Supreme Court's latest ruling, she will now have to serve two years and 8 months in prison.
Well this is the first time I have seen the korean justice system extend a sentence. Normally they reduce it.
