A man in his late 20s has been reported to have murdered his older sister and impersonated her to stop police investigations.
According to reports on April 30 KST, the South Korean man dumped his sister's body in a farm waterway, and then used her messenger app to ask their mother to stop investigating into her disappearance and close the missing person case. He confessed to have stabbed his sister, who was in her 30s, in December of 2020 after they got into an argument about him returning home late. He admitted to placing her body on their apartment rooftop for 10 days before dumping it in a waterway using a rented vehicle.
The brother impersonated his sister in messages to their mother, saying, "If you look for me, I'll hide away," which caused their mother to cancel the missing person case. He further sent photos to family who were worried about her, saying she was spending time with her boyfriend. Police say he used his sister's phone SIM card to take over her accounts, and he also transferred money from her account to his. It's reported no one suspected he was guilty as he sent messages of concern to his sister after murdering her and held her portrait at her funeral.
Her body was discovered in the waterway with 25 stab wounds on April 21.
