Actress Park Tam Hee has publicly shared her experience battling cancer for the first time, revealing the emotional and physical toll it took on her and her family.
On September 3, Park appeared in a video titled 'First Reveal! A Story I Haven’t Told Anyone in 8 Years' on the YouTube channel 'Make Us New.' In the deeply personal interview, she recounted being diagnosed with cancer in May 2017 after undergoing a medical check-up at the suggestion of a doctor she met during a parent meeting.
“I felt my heart drop and then shoot back up,” she said, describing the moment she received the diagnosis. “From that point on, I became a cancer patient.” At the time, Park was 40 years old and the mother of two young children. “I looked at my child and couldn’t even cry. All I could think was, ‘What should I do?’”
Park shared that she kept her diagnosis a secret from most of her family, confiding only in her older sister. “I was in so much pain I thought I would die. I didn’t want others to suffer by knowing,” she said. The fear of leaving her children behind was one of the most painful aspects of her journey.
Initially believed to be an early-stage cancer, the disease had already metastasized by the time of surgery. Park underwent a major operation followed by chemotherapy, which she described as the moment she truly felt like a cancer patient. “I collapsed and cried,” she recalled, visibly emotional.
Despite the hardship, Park has continued regular follow-up exams and remains focused on her recovery. She married her businessman husband in 2008 and is the mother of a son and a daughter.
Her story has resonated with many viewers, shedding light on the silent struggles faced by public figures and the strength required to endure such personal battles away from the spotlight.
