On this week's episode of 'Jaefriends', WINNER members Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Jin Woo appeared as guests and discussed the trainee culture at YG Entertainment.
On this day, host Jaejoong asked the two members of WINNER, "I heard that YG strongly encourages the trainees to adopt a hip-hop mentality early on. Is that true?"
The two answered, "That's definitely true. You can tell just by looking at the way YG trainees dress."
Jaejoong further observed, "See, typically, entertainment companies won't let trainees dress up or wear fancy accessories. But at YG, the trainees are free to dress up however they want."

Hearing this, Kim Jin Woo wondered, "Do other companies actually regulate that stuff?", to which Jaejoong replied, "So usually, the company will say to a trainee who dresses up too much, 'Do you think this is the time for you to be dressing yourself up? You need to be working on nurturing yourself as a person on the inside, not the outside.'"
However, at YG, Kang Seung Yoon revealed, "If we didn't dress up, the company would say, 'Why do you look so unstylish?' It made us want to study fashion more and try stuff out, and we would always go out shopping to make ourselves look better."
To this, Jaejoong said, "In the training system I'm used to, they look at the trainee completely raw. When that trainee is deemed to have potential for stardom, then the company starts trying things out, like different clothes and accessories."
