Actor Won Bin has revealed his current status through a new cosmetics commercial.
A cosmetics brand featuring Won Bin as its model recently released a new advertisement, where the actor is seen wearing a white suit. Despite his 15-year hiatus, Won Bin boasts unchanging visuals, making it hard to believe he has been inactive for so long.
Won Bin, who had been a model for 16 years until his contract with a coffee brand ended last year, had been absent from commercials. His new appearance in this cosmetics commercial marks his return to public view.
Won Bin has not appeared in any acting projects since the 2010 film 'The Man from Nowhere', taking a 15-year break. Even after marrying actress Lee Na-young in 2015 and welcoming a son later that year, Won Bin has only participated in commercials. An official from his agency commented, "He is very enthusiastic about his comeback project and has a strong desire to return with a meaningful project after such a long time." His wife, Lee Na-young, also noted, "Won Bin wants to tell a story rooted in humanism, but it seems challenging to find scenarios in that genre."
Over the years, fans have continuously expressed their hopes for Won Bin's return. However, in 2019, rumors of his retirement surfaced when a press release for one of his pictorials included a peculiar request: "We kindly ask you to refrain from referring to him as an 'actor' in articles." While the PR agency claimed this was at Won Bin's request, his side denied it, clarifying, "This was at the advertiser's discretion. From the brand's perspective, they likely felt it was more effective to label him a model." Won Bin further denied retirement rumors, stating, "I am currently working on a project." Despite this statement, no updates on his status followed.
Even during the 20th anniversary re-release event of his film 'Taegukgi' last year, Won Bin was notably absent. Director Kang Je-gyu, who attended the press conference, mentioned, "It's been four or five years since I've been in contact with Won Bin. I think our numbers have changed in the meantime," and expressed regret, saying, "I wish we could have communicated properly and sat down together."
Since his recent appearance in the cosmetics commercial, calls for Won Bin's return have only intensified, as fans eagerly await his comeback to acting.
