The tvN romance drama ‘Crash Landing on You’, which led to the marriage of the main leads Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin, might not be as far-fetched as you would think. On the latest episode of the variety show ‘Boss in the Mirror’, several former North Korean citizens who fled to the South share details about their escape.
One of the anecdotes by North Korean refugee Kim Seo Ah awed the panel as she detailed her escape aided by her South Korean husband. She was then working at a Cambodian restaurant in North Korea, a job in which she had to pass an audition of a 100:1 success rate to get.
She explains that to become a server and performer at such restaurants, you would have to be above 165 cm tall, have a beautiful face, and not have done any cosmetic surgery. After being selected, you would then have to go through a year of performance training. Kim Seo Ah was then working in a renowned restaurant and referred to as “North Korea’s Kim Tae Hee,” attesting to her popularity.
Kim Seo Ah continues that in the midst of escaping out of North Korea, she fell off the roof at the third floor of her restaurant. Her now husband, who is South Korean, then let her into his car, aiding in her successful escape. This evoked wonder throughout the panel, with them commenting that this is reminiscent of the popular drama series ‘Crash Landing on You’, which revolves around the romance of a South Korean businesswoman and a North Korean soldier.
