The renowned Korean webtoon intellectual property (IP) 'Solo Leveling' is set to expand its reach beyond games and animation into the world of live-action drama.
On January 21, Kakao Entertainment announced plans for a live-action adaptation of 'Solo Leveling,' with real actors bringing the webtoon's beloved characters to life. The media division of Kakao Entertainment is actively participating in the drama’s planning, development, and scriptwriting.
'Solo Leveling' follows the story of Sung Jin Woo, a hunter known as the weakest of his kind, who gains mysterious powers and transforms into the strongest hunter in the world. Originally based on a web novel of the same name, the webtoon has already been adapted into a game and anime, achieving widespread domestic and international success.
The second season of the anime released on December 5, quickly topped Japan's Amazon Prime TV show rankings and placed within the top 10 on Netflix in 11 countries.
A representative from Kakao Entertainment stated, "Solo Leveling has solidified itself as a flagship IP representing K-content. Through continued investment in this IP, we aim to create a record-breaking legacy together."
In celebration of the anime's success, Kakao Entertainment is also hosting an event to engage fans. Until February 1, readers of the original webtoon can receive emoticons and other rewards.
