On January 13, a photo featuring Lee Sang Soon and Hyun Bin was shared on the official channel of MBC FM4U’s Perfect Day, Lee Sang-soon with the caption: “I was with Director Woo Min-ho and actor Hyun Bin.”
The photo reveals DJ Lee San Soon, Director Woo Min-ho, and Hyun Bin together. Netizens were quick to react to this uncommon trio, leaving comments such as: “Sang Soon is definitely not behind Hyun Bin in looks,” “I enjoyed listening to the radio,” and “I’ll make sure to watch the movie.”
Director Woo Min-ho and Hyun Bin’s appearance on the radio show was made possible by Lee Sang Soon’s public request. A listener who had previously seen Harbin had suggested inviting Hyun Bin as a guest.
Lee Sang Soon recalled, “I really didn’t expect it. I mentioned during the broadcast, ‘MBC’s doors are wide open for Hyun Bin.’ Then the next day, I heard Hyun Bin would be on the show. Did you hear the broadcast?”
Hyun Bin responded warmly, saying, “I didn’t hear it directly, but I read about it in an article. Thank you for inviting me like this.”
During the broadcast, Hyun Bin revealed that he initially hesitated to appear in Harbin, sharing, “It’s not easy for an actor to play a real person. Many people view the character from their own perspectives, and existing materials add to the challenge. Matching those expectations wasn’t easy.”
To prepare for his role as Ahn Jung-geun, Hyun Bin explained, “I did extensive research, looking into available materials and records. I also had numerous discussions with the director.”
Director Woo Min-ho shared insights about casting Hyun Bin, saying, “I kept pursuing him even though he initially refused three times. He’s an actor I admire, so I continued to reach out, regardless of his decision. He’s a great actor, and I was captivated the moment we met. His appearance and the emotion in his eyes were perfect for the role. I wanted to explore beyond the heroic image of Ahn Jung-geun, and Hyun Bin’s expressive eyes brought that depth.”
Harbin is a historical drama depicting the intense pursuit and suspense among individuals heading to Harbin in 1909 for a single purpose, as well as those chasing them. It is currently showing in theaters nationwide.
