TWS hailed as a top rookie group, has claimed the number 1 spot on Melon’s year-end annual chart for 2024.
Kakao Entertainment’s music platform Melon released its '2024 Melon Year-End Chart," which analyzes domestic and international chart performance to highlight the year's most popular music trends.
The No. 1 spot on the domestic year-end chart went to TWS, whose debut song "Plot Twist" created a viral sensation. Another rising idol group, ILLIT, also secured 8th place with their debut track "Magnetic."
NewJeans, another 4th-generation leader, secured the 15th spot with "How Sweet" and impressively placed eight of their songs within the top 100, including their hits from 2022 and 2023. IVE also demonstrated remarkable staying power, with their 2023 release "I AM" landing at No. 21, "HEYA" at No. 26, and previous hits like "LOVE DIVE" and "After LIKE" maintaining their presence on the year-end chart.
Solo artists also shined brightly in 2024. IU secured 4th place with "Love Wins All," reaffirming her immense popularity, while her song "Holssi" also made it to 74th. BIBI’s "Bam Yang Gang" was one of the year’s most heartwarming chart comebacks, landing in 16th place. BLACKPINK’s Rosé collaborated with global pop star Bruno Mars on "APT." Despite its October release, the song achieved an impressive 46th-place ranking, making waves in the global music scene.
However, some Korean netizens are wondering how TWS ranked number 1 on Melon’s annual chart with their debut track when they did not rank high on the Gallup polls. They commented:
