Former T-ara member Ahreum appeals suspended sentence for child abuse and defamation.
Former T-ara member Ahreum has filed an appeal against her suspended sentence for charges of child abuse and defamation.
According to reports on January 28th KST, Ahreum submitted the appeal through her legal representative on January 23rd, contesting the first-instance court ruling.
Previously, the Ansan Branch of the Suwon District Court sentenced Ahreum to 8 months in prison, suspended for 2 years, on charges of child abuse and defamation. She was also ordered to attend 40 hours of child abuse prevention education.
Ahreum alleged that her ex-husband had committed acts of child abuse against their children during their marriage. In response, her ex-husband filed a complaint in February last year against Ahreum and her mother, accusing them of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse and neglect) and committing abduction and abandonment of minors.
On January 16th, Ahreum was convicted of abducting a minor and violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation). She was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year suspension. Her mother also received a 4-month prison sentence, suspended for 1 year, for related charges.
Ahreum debuted as a member of T-ara but left the group in 2013. She remarried in 2019 after divorcing her first husband, with whom she has two sons. Last year, Ahreum announced the birth of her third child, followed by news of her fourth pregnancy.
