The woman who extorted 300 million KRW (~ $206,930 USD) from the late actor Lee Sun Gyun through blackmail has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison.
On December 19 KST, the 4th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court sentenced 'A' (30), the manager of an adult entertainment establishment, to 3 years and 6 months in prison. Her accomplice, former actress 'B' (29), has also been sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison.
Judge Hong Eun Sook of the 4th Criminal Division stated, "The victim suffered fear and mental distress as a result of 'A's crimes. 'B' also aggravated the victim's suffering by blackmailing him. The victim, who was also facing investigation for illegal drug use, chose to end his life due to his severe mental and emotional distress. While other factors played a role in his decision, it cannot be denied that 'A' and 'B' contributed to his mental burdens."
Previously in September of 2023, 'A', who was acquainted with Lee Sun Gyun, extorted 300 million KRW from the late actor after claiming that she was being threatened by a hacker who had access to the contents of her phone. It was then revealed that 'B' had hacked into 'A's phone using an illegal SIM card and had convinced 'A' to blackmail Lee Sun Gyun. 'B' coerced 'A' by threatening to turn her into the police for illegal drug use, then also threatened Lee Sun Gyun using phone conversations between Lee and 'A'.
