The Northern Division of the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Kwon In Wook), also known as the Gyeonggi Northern Love Fruit, announced that Seventeen member Hoshi (real name Kwon Soon Young) donated 100 million KRW (approximately 70,000 USD) to support the construction of educational infrastructure at the Luang Prabang Orphanage School in Laos.
A donation ceremony was held on November 4 at the National Luang Prabang Orphanage School in Laos. In place of Hoshi, his parents attended the event, along with Yom Ki Tak, the director of the Korea-Laos Education and Culture Center, the Director of the Luang Prabang Provincial Department of Education, the Director and Deputy Director of the Luang Prabang International Cooperation Office, the principal, staff, and around 100 students from the orphanage school.
As a gesture of gratitude, students from the orphanage performed a traditional Laotian dance and sang the Korean children’s song "Spring in My Hometown" during the ceremony.
The donation from Hoshi is being used to support the construction of new classrooms and improve living facilities at the Luang Prabang National Orphanage School. The project includes the construction of a girls' dormitory and kitchen facilities, providing a better living environment for the students.
Thanks to these improvements, more than 500 underprivileged students who had been struggling with outdated facilities now have access to a safer and more sanitary environment for both learning and daily living.
The newly constructed classrooms are set to be used as a Korean language classroom, an English language classroom, and a computer classroom, all of which aim to support students' academic growth and prepare them for higher education and employment opportunities.
In a statement, Hoshi expressed his thoughts on the donation, saying, “I wanted to support the children so they could grow up healthy and happy. I will continue to give back with a grateful heart to all those who show me love, and I will strive to help people in difficult situations.”
