Red Velvet’s Irene faces backlash over staff behavior at solo fan sign event.
A controversy has arisen following alleged inappropriate behavior by staff at Red Velvet leader Irene’s solo fan sign event.
On December 9, a social media user shared a story about their acquaintance, who claimed to have been subjected to misconduct during Irene’s fansign event on December 7.
The user stated that before going on stage for the signing, attendees underwent a physical check by security staff. However, it was alleged that unnecessary and invasive actions occurred during this process.
According to the account, fans were asked to roll up their sleeves above their elbows to ensure no devices were hidden, and to jump in place. One security staff member reportedly asked for permission to touch the attendee, later touching the area below the collarbone and the upper chest area above their undergarments.
The social media user expressed their outrage, saying, “Why is such a process necessary for attending a fansign event? Even if the chest area wasn’t directly touched, the situation was uncomfortable and unnecessary.”
They also highlighted additional restrictions imposed at the event, such as prohibiting fans from writing notes or questions on post-its or paper, which led attendees to jot down their thoughts on their hands, only to be told to erase them before meeting Irene.
While the user acknowledged that these measures might stem from security concerns, they questioned why innocent fans had to endure such treatment. They wrote, “It feels unreasonable to spend a significant amount of money to attend an event only to be treated like this. I hope such incidents won’t happen again.”
The individual clarified that the security staff member in question was a woman, emphasizing that this did not diminish the discomfort felt by the affected fan. “Even if the staff member is of the same gender, it’s still an unpleasant experience,” they concluded.
Irene recently made her solo debut on November 26 with her first album ‘Like A Flower.’ The album has seen remarkable success, surpassing 330,000 copies in first-week sales, topping the iTunes Top Albums chart in 23 regions, and ranking No. 1 on China’s QQ Music Digital Album Sales Chart.
