With the release of 'Squid Game Season 2' just a few weeks away, Korean netizens are divided over whether the highly anticipated sequel will achieve the same success as the Netflix megahit's first season.

The topic was brought up on a popular online community where netizens shared their thoughts and concerns regarding the upcoming premiere.

Two of the biggest talking points are the star-studded cast for season 2 and whether the series would be able to achieve the same popularity. 'Squid Game Season 2' includes well-known actors such as Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, and Gong Yoo, who also appeared in season 1. It also includes other prominent names such as Im Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and more.

The netizen who created the post shared their thoughts, saying, "In Squid Game 1, aside from Lee Jung Jae, Gong Yoo, and Lee Byung Hun, most of the main roles were played by relatively unknown actors or those with low recognition. As a result, many of them gained fame and benefited from the show's success."

They continued, "However, for Squid Game 2, most of the cast members are already well-known or established actors who have been taking on lead or supporting roles. Because of this, it’s unlikely that appearing in Squid Game 2 will significantly boost their careers."

Finally, they shared, "On top of that, since there are so many famous actors, there’s a chance that each of them will be given their own storyline in the episodes, which could end up being neither here nor there — similar to what happened with Sweet Home 2."

Other netizens joined the discussion and shared their thoughts. Many disagreed with the poster and commented:

"But if you look at it from an American or foreigner's perspective, technically speaking, they’re all 'new faces.' Back then, even a U.S. reporter asked Lee Jung Jae how it felt to become a star because of Squid Game."
"In fact, it seems like Lee Jung Jae became a big hit overseas. He even got a role in a Star Wars drama."
"When people talk about 'rising to fame,' they’re referring to the overseas market, like what happened with Jung Ho Yeon."
"I think it’ll go well. At least one of them is bound to blow up."
"That’s the perspective in Korea, but considering the level of buzz and popularity Squid Game 1 had, it makes more sense to look at the global impact rather than just the domestic one."
"I don't see a clear standout either, but with this much international attention, someone is bound to be singled out as a rising star, lol."
"You never know — there might be a storyline character that foreign audiences go crazy for."
"Huh? Didn’t both Lee Jung Jae and Jung Ho Yeon become big overseas? If that doesn’t count as 'making it,' then what does…"
"No way, I feel like all the actors are going to benefit massively from this."
"Honestly, given how Squid Game 1 changed the lives of its actors, I don’t think there’s any chance that Squid Game 2 won’t have a similar impact."
