Singer and actress IU has made a generous contribution to support participants of the protest calling for President Yoon’s impeachment, held in Yeouido, Seoul.
On December 13, IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced, “To warm the cold hands of UAENA (IU’s fandom name) holding up their lights and brightening the atmosphere at the rally, IU has prepared food and hand warmers.” The statement continued, “Please prioritize your health and safety, and refer to the details below before visiting the designated stores.”
The announcement specified that from December 14, the day of the second impeachment vote against President Yoon, until supplies run out, attendees can visit select locations to receive the items. IU pre-paid for 700 servings of food from five establishments, including cafes, soup restaurants, and rice cake shops.
The agency also noted that the offer is not limited to official UAENA members. Any participant in the protest can receive the food or beverages and hand warmers on a first-come, first-served basis by simply mentioning 'UAENA' at the designated stores.
Fans were deeply moved by the gesture, leaving comments such as, “This is the first time a celebrity has openly supported fans like this. Truly touching,” “This is the definition of positive influence,” and “IU is leading by example and speaking out.”
Meanwhile, the second impeachment vote against President Yoon is scheduled to take place on December 14 at 4 PM during a plenary session of the National Assembly. In the lead-up to the vote, large-scale rallies both for and against the impeachment are being held in locations such as Gwanghwamun and Yeouido.
