The film 'Loop,' a never-ending time thriller about a high school student trapped in a repetitive day and struggling to save his friend, is set to captivate audiences this winter with its powerful question: "What is violence?" Directed by Koo Sang Bum, the movie is based on a real-life incident with added cinematic imagination, drawing significant attention.
Director Koo Sang Bum aimed to question the nature of violence through the medium of film. While developing the project as a short film, he encountered the tragic 2018 incident involving a middle school student’s fall in Incheon. Deeply moved by sorrow and empathy for the victim, he decided to expand the story into a feature-length film.
The addition of a 'time-reversal' plot element introduced the concept of a time loop, ultimately shaping Loop into a complex narrative that explores not only the issue of violence but also the themes of friendship, family, and multiculturalism.
The film stars Lee Hyo Je, known as 'Little So Ji-sub' from 'Oh My Venus', alongside Jung Ji Hoon, who gained recognition as the youngest actor to star in two ten-million-ticket films with the 'Along with the Gods' series. Loop has already drawn international acclaim, being invited to the official competition of the 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it became the first Korean film to win Best Actor (Lee Hyo Je).
The screenplay and direction are by Koo Sang Bum, who has been invited to the Cannes Film Festival's non-competitive short film section three consecutive times and won the Platinum Remi Award at the 56th Houston International Film Festival for 'She's from Another Planet' (2023).
