On December 7 KST, a total of 77 organizations and 2,518 individuals affiliated with the South Korean film industry co-signed a petition titled "Expel and Arrest Yoon Seok Yeol, Offender Guilty of Treason".
The petition read,
"The number one precondition required for overcoming the current political chaos and for restoring the reputation of South Korea, which has plummeted as a result of recent events, is the suspension of President Yoon Seok Yeol from office.
If impeachment is the fastest way, then we must choose it; if there is a different means of expelling him from his position, we must seek out the fastest possible option.
The arrest and conviction of Yoon Seok Yeol, who admitted to his crime of treason during a live broadcast today, and the arrest and conviction of the Minister of Defense and all other parties responsible for the martial law declaration, is a most evident and necessary course of action which cannot be compromised.
Those of us in the film industry will no longer acknowledge Yoon Seok Yeol as the president of South Korea.
He is merely an offender guilty of treason.
We demand that he be suspended from office, expelled from his position, and arrested for his crimes."
Representatives of the Korean film industry including directors Bong Joon Ho, Byun Young Joo, Jang Joon Hwan, and actress Moon So Ri were listed as witnesses of the petition, while signatories included Kang Dong Won, Jun Ji Hyun, Son Ye Jin, and more.
Earlier this week, a total of 191 members of the South Korean National Assembly, led by the Democratic Party of Korea, motioned for a vote to impeach Yoon Seok Yeol from office for his violation of the constitution. The National Assembly will convene to vote on the impeachment later this evening on December 7 at 5 PM KST.
