Renowned singer PSY recently addressed allegations surrounding the seizure of a luxury villa due to unpaid fines, clarifying that the issue has since been resolved.
On November 25, media outlet Biz Hankook reported that PSY faced accusations of unauthorized use changes and illegal extensions on a luxury villa located in The House, a high-end complex within UN Village in Hannam-dong, Seoul. The villa, purchased by PSY in September 2008, was reportedly flagged for these violations.
According to the Yongsan District Office, PSY was ordered to rectify the violations but failed to comply. Consequently, a non-compliance fine was issued, which remained unpaid for over a year, leading to the villa’s seizure. However, PSY’s representatives confirmed that the fine was fully paid in October, and the seizure has since been lifted.
In a statement, PSY’s agency, P Nation, clarified: “When PSY moved into the villa in 2007, it was a brand-new property directly purchased from the builder. He lived there for over 17 years and never carried out any unauthorized use changes or extensions.”
The agency added that complaints led to the discovery of illegal extensions from the original construction. PSY and other unit owners are currently preparing to rectify the violations by working with construction firms.
The fine in question, referred to as a "compliance enforcement penalty," was imposed for failing to address the rectification order related to the property’s status as an unauthorized structure. The delay in payment, the agency explained, was due to a late notice of the fine. However, they confirmed that the fine has now been fully settled.
The villa, purchased for ₩2.2 billion (About USD 1,580,000) in September 2008, served as PSY and his wife's residence for 17 years. The couple moved out in 2020 and subsequently rented out the property.
