On November 26, CJ ENM announced they would be producing the second season of Mnet's 'Boys Planet' and will be launching next year.
According to Chief Producer Kim Shin Young, "The program will be based on a multiverse concept, allowing for limitless expansion," and the program will simultaneously air two versions - Korean and Chinese.
The second season of 'Boys Planet,' titled 'Boys II Planet,' comes two years after the first season. The first season produced ZEROBASEONE with nine finalists - Zhang Hao, Sung Han Bin, Seok Matthew, Ricky, Park Gun Wook, Kim Tae Rae, Kim Gyu Vin, Kim Ji Woong, and Han Yu Jin. The group debuted in 2023 and is currently on their first world tour.
Producer Kim Shin Young explained the reason for choosing to air both in Korean and Chinese and elaborated, "We've chosen China, with its massive population of 1.5 billion, as the first step in this global journey."
Kim Shin Young added, "Our goal is to discover talented artists from diverse nationalities and witness the synergy created when the two final groups, formed under the same universe but from different programs, come together."
Auditions for the new season opened on Friday and will run until January 1, 2025. Male applicants born before January 1, 2012, regardless of nationality, are eligible to apply for either the Korean or Chinese version of the program. Applicants who already participated in the pre-audition project Planet B in August do not need to reapply.
Mnet is known for its successful audition programs, with temporary K-pop groups formed through its shows achieving significant commercial success. The Produce series, which aired from 2016 to 2019, produced popular acts such as I.O.I, Wanna One, IZ*ONE, and X1. These groups have set a precedent for the potential impact of Boys II Planet.
