The operator of the YouTube channel 'Taldeoksuyongso,' which published a video containing false information about singer Kang Daniel, has lost a civil lawsuit.
On November 27th, Judge Lee Kun Hee of the 29th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of Kang Daniel in his lawsuit against the operator of 'Taldeoksuyongso,' identified as Mr. A. The court ordered Mr. A to pay 30 million won (approximately $22,500 USD) in damages to Kang Daniel.
In 2022, Mr. A posted a video titled 'The Disturbing Private Life of the Nation's Boyfriend, Actor Idol,' which contained false information. As a result, Mr. A was fined 10 million won (approximately $7,500 USD) in September for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.
Mr. A has also been involved in another lawsuit for damages filed by Jang Won Young of the group I.V.E. In the first trial, the court ordered Mr. A to pay 100 million won (approximately $75,000 USD) plus late interest to Jang Won Young in December of last year. Dissatisfied with the ruling, Mr. A’s side appealed the decision, but mediation during the appeal process failed to reach an agreement. The appeal trial is currently ongoing.
Additionally, the Incheon District Court is conducting a first trial on charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. Prosecutors have requested a sentence of four years in prison and a fine of 200 million won (approximately $150,000 USD) for Mr. A.
