Former GLAM member Kim Siwon transitions to youtube after past controversy.
Kim Siwon, a former member of the group Glam and now an internet broadcaster, has transitioned to becoming a YouTuber. Kim gained notoriety in 2014 for attempting to extort 5 billion KRW (approximately $4 million) from actor Lee Byung Hun, a crime for which she was sentenced to prison.
On November 17th KST, Kim posted her first video on her personal YouTube channel, where she introduced her long-time friend and explained the motivation behind starting her channel.
The video description reads, “A message for those contemplating challenges from a woman who has faced life’s storms and her friend who witnesses death every day.”
In the video, Kim explained her hesitation to take on new ventures. “Even when there’s something I want to do, I often put it off because I’m scared to start. But I have a friend who helps me overcome that. My friends believe in me and support me no matter what I do,” she said.
She added, “This isn’t just for fun; it’s about delivering a message of courage. I hope to bring positivity to others. Starting something like this, whether it’s YouTube or any kind of work, takes courage. With the support of my friend, I’m taking this step forward.”
Her friend, who appeared in the video, shared, “Siwon has struggled with feeling intimidated due to her past. We’ve had many conversations about this, and she has things she wants to do and is eager to work hard. We want to give viewers positive energy and work towards fulfilling our dreams together.”
Kim Siwon debuted in 2012 as a member of Glam under the stage name Dahee. In 2014, she and a model friend were convicted of filming and threatening to release compromising conversations with actor Lee Byung Hun, demanding 5 billion KRW. She received a one-year prison sentence with two years of probation.
Since 2018, Kim has been active as a broadcaster on AfreecaTV. In 2022, she reportedly earned approximately 2.4 billion KRW (around $1.8 million) from the platform.
