Jennie states that she had started frequenting saunas, which is a staple in Korean culture, after long hours of tour rehearsals since many years ago.
While the term cold-plunging may seem like a recent trend in the wellness circle or a modification of ‘ice baths’ reserved for athletes, it has been a traditional and common activity for many cultures, including Korea.
In Korea, the terms used are ‘hot pool (on-tang 온탕)’ and ‘cold pool (naeng-tang 냉탕)’. Such pools are in every public bathhouse in Korea, which are used after saunas and showers. Koreans have espoused the benefits of soaking in hot and cold pools intermittently, which parallel the advantages that cold-plunging advocates talk about, such as boosting one’s mood and relaxing the body.
