With Edward Lee and the "Napoli Matfia" advancing to the finals of 'Culinary Class Wars,' all eyes were on who will take the crown.
On the 8th, the final episodes of the much-talked-about Netflix series 'Culinary Class Wars' were released. These episodes featured the second round of the semi-finals, dubbed "Endless Cooking Hell," where the finalists were decided, and then the grand finale, where the final two contestants faced off.
In the ultimate individual challenge, Endless Cooking Hell, four contestants from the "Silver Spoon" team and three from the "Black Spoon" team, who were among the Top 8, battled it out.
The "Black Spoon" contestant, Napoli Matfia, who had already secured a spot in the finals from the first semi-final, watched the intense showdown.
After a fierce competition, Edward Lee, a contestant from the "Silver Spoon" team, was selected to advance to the final round.
Edward Lee, a former chef for a state dinner at the White House, captivated judges Baek Jong-won and Ahn Sung-jae with his aged kimchi pork jowl salad and earned high praise working with the "Silver Spoon" fish team alongside Choi Hyun-seok.
Reflecting on his journey to the finals, Edward Lee expressed his joy, saying, "I never thought I would make it this far when I first arrived. I am truly happy and grateful."
The final round then began, with Napoli Matfia, who had started from the bottom and overcome numerous obstacles, facing off against Edward Lee, who entered as a contestant despite his impressive credentials, to compete for the 300 million KRW (223,000 USD) grand prize.
The final challenge was titled "A Dish to Remember," with unanimous agreement from the judges being the key to victory.
Both contestants prepared dishes reflecting their distinct styles and presented the stories behind their creations to judges Baek Jong-won and Ahn Sung-jae, sharing their final narratives.
In front of their fellow contestants, who had been with them throughout the competition, the judges successfully reached an unanimous decision.
The winner of the 300 million KRW grand prize was Kwon Sung-jun, also known as the "Black Spoon" contestant, Napoli Matfia.
In a dramatic turn of events, Kwon Sung-jun revealed his real name, shedding the "Napoli Matfia" nickname, and completed his underdog story.
Kwon Sung-jun shared his thoughts on winning, saying, "Now that I've won, I realize the path I've taken for the past ten years wasn’t wrong. Moving forward, I want to live as a chef, focusing solely on my home and the kitchen."
Edward Lee also shared his feelings, saying, "I’m a Korean-American. My passion and life’s work have been about bringing Korea’s beautiful ingredients to the U.S. Being here has been such a wonderful experience," expressing his deep affection for Korea.
Kwon Sung-jun left a lasting impression, saying, "I want to run a restaurant where I can freely cook the food I want to show and share with others. What I want to do now is cook with complete freedom."
