Fans are demanding an official apology regarding safety issues at Seventeen’s recording site.
According to music industry sources on October 29th KST, Seventeen held a pre-recording for their new song "Love, Money, Fame" on Mnet’s M Countdown on October 15 at the CJ ENM Studio Center in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. A fan attendee, A, shared a post on social media on October 22 titled "Official Apology and Call for Action on Fan Safety Issues at Seventeen’s Pre-Recording on October 15, 2024". The post, shared over 1,000 times on X (formerly Twitter), compiled concerns from fans who felt unsafe at the site.
A claimed, “A total of 1,700 people were allowed entry into a space that was already too small for the initially approved 1,600 fans.” A described how fans in the floor section were “pushed from all directions, creating serious pressure that led to feelings of life-threatening danger, with multiple fans fainting or experiencing medical issues during the recording.” A also mentioned that fans were required to wear thick varsity jackets distributed at entry, leading to dehydration, fainting, and illness for some attendees.
A further stated that after leaving the recording area, fans had limited space and were forced to sit or lie on asphalt. According to A, although staff collected personal information from affected fans as they exited, the agency did not follow up.
Through Weverse’s customer support, A contacted the agency to express concerns, receiving a response that said, “We handle issues that arise on-site, only on-site.” A criticized Pledis, Hybe, and CJ ENM for neglecting fans’ concerns despite their corporate influence.
A contacted the Korea Consumer Agency (KCA) about the issue on October 18, receiving a response from the agency that if fans wanted compensation, they would need to submit photos or videos of the situation. However, A stated that as recording began, staff prohibited electronic device use, so no evidence of the situation was available.
Another fan, B, shared that fans pushed toward the center to see the members more closely, causing crowding issues. B also mentioned that Seventeen members noticed the safety concerns and tried to complete the recording quickly.
In response, Hybe stated, “The number of attendees and security staff on the set were determined based on the broadcaster’s guidelines. The agency and the broadcaster took steps on-site to relieve audience discomfort, such as providing rest spaces and beverages.” An M Countdown representative commented, “We have no additional response.”
