LE SSERAFIM's member Hong Eunchae has sparked a heated debate among netizens after it was revealed that she had been placing stickers on staff members' belongings.
On September 1st, screenshots of social media posts from staff members, who humorously mentioned being "victims" of Eunchae's promotional efforts for the group's new mini-album, started circulating on online communities.
These posts featured images of stickers with the phrase "Crazy" and Eunchae's face, which had been affixed to various items such as MacBooks, spray bottles, and tumblers. The staff members seemed amused, leaving comments like, "My laptop was taken over while I wasn’t looking. Eunchae, are you happy?" and "My laptop is full of traces of Eunchae."
However, some netizens criticized Eunchae, saying she "crossed the line." They expressed frustration with comments like, "The thought of removing that sticker is stressing me out," and "It's no different from vandalizing a historic site." Others speculated that not everyone could afford to replace damaged items, stating, "Some people might be paying off their MacBooks for two years," and questioned whether the stickers were applied with consent.
On the other hand, many defended Eunchae, pointing out that the staff had posted about the incident themselves and appeared to be fine with it. Supporters argued, "It's exhausting how female idols get criticized for things like this," and "If the staff were really upset, they wouldn't have posted about it."
This incident follows a previous controversy where Eunchae was criticized for making a seemingly insensitive gesture towards a high school senior during a live broadcast. She later apologized, stating that she would be more mindful and responsible in the future. However, even then, some netizens felt the backlash was disproportionate.
