Kim Woo Bin captivates the world in ‘Officer Black Belt’.
On September 13th KST, Netflix released the action film 'Officer Black Belt', telling the story of Jeong Do, a martial arts expert with nine combined black belts in Taekwondo, Kendo, and Judo. He becomes an "Officer Black Belt," working with probation officer Kim Sun Min to monitor criminals wearing electronic anklets 24/7. The plot follows Jeong Do as he embarks on his new role.
Kim Woo Bin, playing the passionate young Jeong Do, has added another iconic character to his resume, with his performance earning unanimous praise and making him shine even brighter.
To embody Jeong Do, Kim Woo Bin underwent significant transformations. He gained 8kg to realistically portray a character who loves food and exercise. Rather than aiming for a perfectly sculpted physique, he went for a natural, real-life bulk-up.
In addition, Kim Woo Bin proposed the idea of giving Jeong Do blonde hair, a major transformation for the actor who had never fully bleached his hair before. This added a unique charm to Jeong Do’s free-spirited personality, raising anticipation for the film.
Once 'Officer Black Belt' was released, Kim Woo Bin exceeded expectations with his matured acting, capturing Jeong Do’s emotional journey and delivering thrilling, realistic action sequences. His portrayal of Jeong Do’s evolving emotions—from boredom to growing dedication and a desire for a safer world—struck a chord with viewers, enhancing the depth of his performance.
In a production conference, Kim Woo Bin stated, “It was fascinating to see how a young man who initially pursued fun developed a strong sense of duty as an Officer Black Belt. I wanted to deliver those emotions to the audience.” His ambition was fully realized in 'Officer Black Belt'.
Kim Woo Bin’s action scenes were particularly memorable, showcasing dynamic kicks and hand-to-hand combat. His impactful “Jangdokdae action” sequence, where he delivers serious blows to the villains, stood out as a highlight, combining both thrill and humor.
Kim Woo Bin’s powerful 107-minute performance has propelled 'Officer Black Belt' to worldwide success. As of September 16th KST, the film ranked 3rd in Netflix's global film category on FlixPatrol and made the top 10 in 85 countries. Once again, Kim Woo Bin’s star power has proven unstoppable, capturing both domestic and international attention.
Currently streaming on Netflix, 'Officer Black Belt' is making this year’s Chuseok an exciting one with Kim Woo Bin at its center.
