'EGO 90'S PART 3' includes soulful songs like "Glittering," "blue eyes," "City Night (feat. Jisun)," "Balloon Gum," "Epilogue," "Aerobic," "portrait (with Kim Feelsun)," and "and the night," among others, proving his place as one of the most promising acts in the genre.
Next month, Babylon is set to embark on his first-ever US tour titled 'BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES,' with a total of 21 stops. Ahead of his tour, allkpop sat down with the singer-songwriter to talk about his recent project and creative process. Check out the exclusive interview below!
allkpop: Tell us more about ‘EGO 90’S PART 3.’ What’s the collective meaning behind the album, and are there any particular messages you would want to convey to the listeners?
Babylon: 'EGO 90's Part 3' is the third full-length album in this series, following the release of Part 1 and Part 2. With this album, I wanted to convey that while trends may constantly change, the essence of classical music remains timeless and enduring.
allkpop: How different or connected is it from parts 1 and 2?
Babylon: While the tone and atmosphere of the songs in Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 vary slightly, the core essence of the music remains consistent throughout. Each part has its own unique vibe, but they are all connected by the same foundational sound and style.
allkpop: ‘EGO 90’s PART 3’ has 25 songs. That’s a lot for one album. How long did it take you to finalize which songs should be included in the album?
Babylon: It took about two years to finalize the album. This includes everything from brainstorming ideas, developing the overall story, writing the lyrics, and composing the melodies to the recording process as well as the mixing and mastering stages. Each step required a lot of time and attention to ensure that every song fit seamlessly into the album.
allkpop: You’ve been writing songs for years now and have written most of the tracks on the album. Could you walk us through the process of creating music? How do you do it?
Babylon: The process is different every time. Sometimes the lyrics come to me first, and other times the melody appears before anything else. I don't follow a strict formula — I try to let the creativity flow as naturally as possible, allowing the music to develop in its own way. It's all about finding the right balance between inspiration and intuition.
allkpop: What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned about creating and performing music?
Babylon: The biggest lesson I've learned through creating and performing music is the importance of staying humble. Every time I work on a new piece, it reminds me of how much there is to learn and improve. I always feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to make music, and it pushes me to give my best every time.
allkpop: Could you share with us one moment where you had difficulties writing songs? How do you make sure that all these songs have their own unique qualities that don’t make them similar to each other?
Babylon: I do my best to avoid falling into stereotypes and focus on creating with as much freedom as possible. Each time I compose or write lyrics, I embrace the process fully — whether it’s during challenging, lonely moments or times of happiness. I acknowledge and accept all these emotions, and that’s what helps me bring a unique quality to each song. Despite the difficulties, I try to enjoy every part of the journey, which allows the music to develop its own distinct character.
allkpop: You’re embarking on your first US tour. How are the preparations for it going? And please leave a message for your fans and allkpop readers and invite them to your shows!
Babylon: It's my first tour in the US, so I'm nervous and excited. I'm trying to do it as naturally as possible and practicing. I really appreciate your support and thought of me, subscribers. I hope we become one with music. Thank you. I love you!
