Here’s what Yoo Ah In and Kim Ho Joong will be eating for Chuseok in prison.
According to a report from Newsis on September 16, the Seoul Detention Center will serve bread, jam, soup, boiled eggs, and soy milk for breakfast on Chuseok.
For lunch, they’ll have potato dumpling soup, stir-fried dried squid, corn salad, and kimchi. Dinner will include soybean paste stew, gondre rice with sauce, seasoned seaweed, and kimchi.
There will also be a special Chuseok meal, but the exact menu hasn’t been revealed yet. Last year, they served mixed grain rice cakes as part of the special meal.
Yoo Ah In has been in custody at Seoul Detention Center since September 3, after being sentenced to prison for drug charges. He was convicted of using propofol 181 times between September 2020 and March 2023, and of illegally obtaining sleeping pills under someone else’s name between May 2021 and August 2022.
Prosecutors have also accused Yoo Ah In of instructing a friend to destroy evidence and forcing someone to smoke marijuana while in the U.S.
Kim Ho Joong, meanwhile, was involved in a drunk driving incident in Apgujeong, Seoul, in May. He initially refused a breathalyzer test, making it impossible to confirm his blood alcohol level. As a result, he faces charges of reckless driving and fleeing the scene, among others.
Kim Ho Joong’s bail hearing is scheduled for September 30, but he is likely to remain in custody until then. He is currently staying in a small solitary cell, which is about 5 square meters in size and includes a toilet, sink, bedding, and a TV. The TV is available for viewing between 5 PM and 9 PM.
Yoo Ah In was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 2 million KRW (1,515 USD) for his drug-related charges. He was also ordered to complete 80 hours of drug rehabilitation education and pay 1.54 million KRW in forfeiture.
