EXID’s Hani and Psychiatrist Yang Jae Woong postpone wedding due to patient death incident.
Hani, a former member of the group EXID, and psychiatrist Yang Jae Woong have decided to postpone their wedding. The decision comes in the wake of a tragic incident involving the death of a patient at Yang Jae Woong’s clinic.
On September 3 KST, Yang Jae Woong’s agency, Mystic Story, confirmed that “Yang Jae Woong and Hani have decided to postpone their wedding, which was originally scheduled for September.” When asked whether the postponement was out of respect for the affected patient’s family, the agency responded, “We were only informed about the postponement of the wedding.”
The incident in question involved the death of a woman in her 30s, identified as Ms. A, who passed away 17 days after being admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. Ms. A had been admitted for treatment related to addiction to diet pills containing narcotics, and her cause of death is suspected to be “pseudo-obstruction.”
In an interview, the bereaved family expressed their grievances, stating, “We specifically chose this hospital because it is well-known and the doctor discussed their addiction treatment program. However, despite her severely swollen abdomen compared to when she was admitted, she did not receive a consultation with an internal medicine doctor from the hospital, nor was she referred to another hospital for treatment.”
It was later revealed that the hospital director is Yang Jae Woong, which caused a backlash that also affected his fiancée, Hani. Yang Jae Woong issued an apology through his agency, stating, “I sincerely apologize to the bereaved family. As the hospital director, I take this incident very seriously and will fully cooperate with the investigation.”
However, according to a report from the Bucheon City government, the investigation concluded that the hospital had complied with the maximum permissible time for isolation and restraint in relation to the death. The family of the deceased is continuing to plead for justice, even publicly disclosing personal details of the deceased.
As a result of this incident, Hani voluntarily stepped down from JTBC’s new variety show ‘Review4Cut,’ and Yang Jae Woong has also suspended his broadcast activities.
