A former idol group member in his 30s has been charged with falsifying medical records to avoid military service.
On September 9, the Changwon District Prosecutor's Office's Criminal Division 3 (headed by Prosecutor Lee Chi Hyun) announced that they had indicted "A" without detention on charges of violating the Military Service Act.
The investigation revealed that in May 2021, the former idol conspired with his mother, "B," to forge medical records under a doctor’s name to avoid active duty enlistment. Despite being initially classified as eligible for active duty (Grade 1) during his military service examination, 'A' used these falsified records to lower his classification to Grade 4, making him eligible for less physically demanding service as a public service worker.
The police initially dropped the case due to a lack of evidence, but the prosecution requested a reinvestigation, which led to 'A’s indictment. Prosecutors found evidence, including recorded phone calls between 'A,' his mother, and a nurse, "C," who was also involved in falsifying the hospital records. Nurse C was found to have accessed the hospital’s computer system to alter the medical records, and both she and 'A’s mother were also indicted.
'A' completed his military service as a public service worker under the falsified Grade 4 status. If he is found guilty, 'A' may be required to undergo another medical examination, and depending on the results, he could be required to serve again in accordance with his actual physical condition.
'A's trial date has not yet been set.
