Ex Fantasy Boys Yu Junwon Begins 30 Billion Won Lawsuit, Pleads "Facing Disadvantages Just from the Trial Itself"

Yu Junwon, who is entangled in a contract dispute with the production company Funky Studio over the show Fantasy Boys (MBC), has expressed concerns about being disadvantaged just by the ongoing legal proceedings. He has requested that the court expedite the trial process.

On the 12th, the 31st Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court held the first hearing of the 30 billion won damages lawsuit between Funky Studio and Yu Junwon. The trial was delayed three times over nearly five months after the lawsuit was filed.

Yu Junwon won first place on Fantasy Boys and was set to debut with the group, but tensions arose due to demands for an adjustment in profit distribution and his alleged unauthorized departure from the team. Yu Junwon previously filed for an injunction to suspend the validity of his exclusive contract with Funky Studio but lost the case.

Funky Studio accused Yu Junwon of preparing a fan meeting in secret, in violation of the contract, and announced strong legal action. The company also warned the event organizer, stating that they would take legal measures, including sending certification of content and filing for an injunction.

Funky Studio later revealed that the domestic production company involved in Yu Junwon's secret fan meeting was identified as "ハックルベリ (Huckleberry)." They emphasized that holding such events without permission would be a clear violation of the contract, considering Yu Junwon had already lost the injunction case. The studio plans to escalate the issue with relevant entertainment industry associations.

Despite these developments, Kim Kwangsoo, the CEO of PocketDol Studio, which manages the Fantasy Boys group, expressed a willingness to bring Yu Junwon back if he wished to return, even offering to negotiate with Funky Studio. However, Yu Junwon remained unresponsive, leading Funky Studio to file the 30 billion won lawsuit.

Yu Junwon’s side has repeatedly claimed that no formal exclusive contract was ever signed after his appearance on the show, and that ongoing negotiations failed to reach an agreement. They argue that the injunction case was misrepresented, and the court dismissed it because no exclusive contract was in place, thus there was no basis for Funky Studio to interfere with Yu’s entertainment activities.

During the hearing, Funky Studio’s legal team indicated plans to call a witness who was involved in contract negotiations with Yu Junwon’s mother to clarify the facts of the case. Yu Junwon's legal team emphasized the importance of speeding up the process, stating that the mere existence of the trial is causing harm to Yu Junwon.

The next hearing is scheduled for November 21.
