Rapper San E, embroiled in controversy over the alleged assault of a passerby, has been booked by the police on charges of aggravated assault.
On August 19, the Seoul Mapo Police Station announced that rapper San E (real name Jung San, 39) was booked on August 17 for aggravated assault.
Jung is accused of assaulting a passerby, identified as Mr. A, on July 28 at around 8:30 PM near the entrance of a park in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Reportedly, Jung told Mr. A to "push the bicycle properly" and then used his phone and other objects to assault him.
Mr. A claimed that his face was injured near his eye and that some of his teeth were damaged. The police, who responded to the scene after receiving a report, conducted a preliminary investigation before allowing both Jung and the victim to leave.
The police later summoned Jung for further questioning and, finding grounds for the charge, officially booked him on August 17 and have since launched a formal investigation.
A police official stated, "Mr. A has also been booked for assault as it was a case of mutual violence. However, it has been confirmed that Mr. A did not use any objects as weapons." The police noted that since the statements of Mr. A and Jung conflict, additional investigation is required.
Regarding the incident, San E’s representatives stated, "We have no further comments at this time. We apologize."
San E debuted in the music industry in 2010 after being signed by a well-known entertainment company in 2008. He later gained prominence as a producer on the popular audition program "Show Me the Money".
